Kuta Tour
Hours 18.00 – 22.00 (Optional)
Shopping is Kuta. This resort caters to all pockets for accommodation, restaurant and shopping. Jalan Legian is the main street but the shops, stalls and street sellers are everywhere – even on the beach. The bargains range from trendy designer clothes, leather goods such as bags, suitcases and belt to ‘copy’ watches, silver jewelry, paintings and woodcarvings cheap and cheerful T-shirts. Bargaining is usual practice – start at one third to one half the asking price and give what you are happy to pay. Some shops and the department stores are fixed price.
Selling times are generally between 10.00 am and 9.30 pm, but night life is very lively. Some close Sunday afternoon. There are several markets – one near Legian Beach Hotel, one in south Kuta, and one near Bemo Corner. Some shops and the the more fashionable designer clothes shops are fixed price. Most goods offered are ‘cheap’ and ‘cheerful’ but there some high quality art and fashion shops too. In south Kuta, Matahari Square and Discovery Mall are the best.
You will soon discover that the Balinese are keen to tempt you into their shops, taxis and restaurants. If you are not interested just reply firmly “No, thank you” or, “Tidak, terima kasih” and carry on walking. You can tell them that you are “jalan-jalan” which means “walking around” which guarantees to make them laugh!
