City Tour
Hours: 09.00 – 13.00 (Half Day Tour)
Tours enroute : Pasar (Traditional and Modern market)–Museum Bali–Bali Arts Center.
Denpasar is the capital and administrative center of Bali Province. Before its colonial conquest, Denpasar was called Badung. At that time, Badung was one of the richest and most powerful place of the Balinese kingdom.
First visit the colorful ‘pasar’ (Indonesian for market), - an interesting market – a disorderly line-up of stalls offering everything from fish to fine jewelry, where local people sell their products with much haggling over prices
Next visit is,
The Museum Bali, behind the ornate walls in the center of Denpasar, consists of four major buildings dating back to 1910, three of which represent styles from different regencies of Bali with their art collection that ranges from prehistoric finds to early 20th century art. On display are also scale models depicting the ritualistic Balinese tooth filling, marriage and cremation. Opposite the Museum Bali, it is Puputan Square, the main square of Denpasar. By the beginning of the 20th century, the colonial government stepped up its imperialist claims, and Badung was the first to learn how radically the military balance had changed. The issue of a plundered wreck provided a pretext for war and in 1906 this squire became the site of one of the most tragic and poignant events in Indonesian history.
Your last stop is the Bali Arts Centre; a traditional Balinese building which houses a permanent exhibition of modern paintings and woodcarvings.
